Looking for a hardy, versatile plant with medicinal benefits? Look no further! Calendula, also known as 'Herb of the Sun', is a member of the chrysanthemum family and boasts vitamin-rich, daisy-like flowers. Not only that, but you can also use it to add flavor to your dishes or create natural dyes. Calendula, has antiseptic and anti-fungal properties and contains precursors for human hormones and Vitamin A. Many holistic healers highly recommend it for its gentle yet powerful ability to heal and reduce inflammation. It also makes a great addition to bath and beauty products, such as bath infusions, face washes, skin/wound treatments and shampoos. It can even be safely used on animals. If consumed as a soothing tea, it can also provide relief for stomach pain and conditions of the liver and inflamed lymph nodes. If you love making medicines and treating ailments with home remedies as much as we do, then this is a must have plant for the garden medicine chest.

Keep your Calendula plant hydrated by watering it regularly. Once it has settled into its new home, you can decrease the watering to only occasionally. This plant thrives in full to part sun and requires well-draining soil to prevent root rot. Regularly deadheading, or removing dead/damaged flowers, will promote continual blooms throughout fall. Make sure to give your plant enough space for proper air flow to avoid Powdery Mildew.

Tip: If you let this annual plant go to seed, you can collect the seeds for the next year. This plant will also re-seed itself in optimal soil.
